Pam Johnson - Con-way Enterprise Services

Pam JohnsonAs senior IT internal auditor, Pam Johnson works out of Con-way’s Enterprise Services facility in Portland, Ore. In her role, Pam identifies and assesses technical risks to the company, evaluates internal controls, and monitors IT systems and processes. She started working for Con-way right out of school in 1976 and says that her love for the company’s culture is what has kept her working there for so long.

“I grew up with Con-way, the people here are like my family,” Pam said. “On this campus there are people who have been working here for 20, even 30 years. It’s pretty amazing. I think people have stayed here for so long because of the opportunities for advancement, having such a beautiful place to work and being part of a great community.”

A lifelong resident of Portland, Pam has a great appreciation for nature and enjoys being outdoors. She is also a marathon and ultra marathon runner and loves that the Con-way campus is close enough to Forest Park — one of the nation’s largest parks lying within city limits — that she can slip out for a quick run during her lunch hour. She believes that exercising is a lifestyle the Con-way campus truly embraces and notes that there is always a colleague up for an after-work run, whether they are going for a quick jog or training for an ultra marathon.

Pam competes in approximately three or four marathons or ultra marathons per year, with a few shorter races in between. Since taking up the sport at 28, she has enjoyed many great accomplishments and is always challenging herself to beat her personal records. In October, Pam finished fourth out of her age group in The Portland Marathon, a nationally ranked race with over 9,000 runners.

“The key to long distance running is the same as working — it’s certainly a lot easier when you have a great group of people whose company you enjoy,” Pam said. “Otherwise it can get pretty boring out there for four or five hours at a time. I’m really lucky to have coworkers that also make great running partners.”
