Stephen has had an exciting career with Con-way that has enabled him to travel to and live in different parts of the country. This has allowed Stephen to cultivate friendships in the communities where he has lived — relationships that will last a lifetime. Working with Con-way has also provided him with opportunities that have allowed him to develop both personally and professionally. He also appreciates the fact that he has been able to work with many great people at Con-way, and to experience that strong common bond and feeling of teamwork: Con-way’s shared commitment and dedication to be the best.

In his role as region manager, Stephen is responsible for 16 operating locations and more than 800 employees. He makes sure that the location managers have what they need to meet on-time performance metrics and overall goals, and he assists his team to resolve any customer issues that might arise. His job requires the ability to relate well to people and prepare others to take on additional responsibilities. He must be a good communicator, as he does a lot of teaching and coaching, and supports Con-way Freight’s mentor program. He must also have a good sense of strategic direction. Stephen believes his success in his position is due in part to his refusal to accept the status quo. He consistently searches for better ways to achieve his goals. Stephen knows that with Con-way, he’s part of a culture and value system that shares his appreciation for trying new things and striving for excellence.

Working with Con-way Freight has given Stephen a challenging, rewarding career that also allows him to pursue interests outside of work. He’s an avid sports fan who enjoys visiting family on the West Coast and in his home state of Michigan. His career has also provided him with the financial security he needs to tackle home improvement projects, and to participate in the sports and recreational activities he loves, such as golf, tennis, running, snowboarding, boating and fishing.
