When you think about what a truckdriving career entails, you might not see it as a way to help and encourage people you meet on your daily travels. But for Bill and Nancy Pritchett, that’s just one of the satisfying aspects of life on the road — and their journey to success with Con-way.
Bill and Nancy are team drivers for Con-way Truckload, sharing the driving responsibilities for a dedicated account. This entails delivering freight for a specific client with a predictable schedule, which helps drivers plan their time away from work. They enjoy their work life as a team, driving anywhere from 1,100–1,400 miles a day, seeing the country and spending time together. It’s a lifestyle that offers a variety of rewarding experiences on the road, and the time to do the things they love outside of work, such as exploring the country’s national parks.
This career also provides them the opportunity to meet a variety of people along their travels and share their work and life culture and values. During one of their team assignments, Bill and Nancy befriended a truckstop waitress who had fallen on hard times. She was a single mom who was clearly in need of help. After hearing her story, the Pritchetts left her a $200 tip. What’s even more remarkable is that they made a commitment to keep in touch with her and continued to help, eventually encouraging her to return to school and build a better life.
The Pritchetts are consistently praised for their high standards of professionalism and enthusiasm over the road. They have proven through their actions that they are consummate team players, always supporting new company initiatives and remaining flexible in order to provide quality, reliable service. Together, the Pritchetts have driven more than 500,000 accident-free miles since they began their career with Con-way in 2005.
