Pete Montaño is vice president of sales for Con-way Truckload, Con-way’s truckload operation. Con-way Truckload is a leader in truckload and intermodal services throughout North America. As vice president of sales for Con-way Truckload, Montaño oversees sales in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
Con-way Truckload is a subsidiary of Con-way Inc. (NYSE:CNW), a $4.7 billion freight transportation and logistics services company headquartered in San Mateo, Calif. Con-way delivers industry-leading services through its primary operating companies of Con-way Freight, Menlo Worldwide Logistics and Con-way Truckload. These operating units provide less-than-truckload (LTL), full truckload; as well as logistics, warehousing and supply chain management services; and trailer manufacturing. As executive vice president of sales for Con-way Truckload, Pete Montaño is responsible for the strategic sales planning and training for all sales in the United States, Canada and Mexico, as well as for the success of the sales force at Con-way Truckload and Con-way Truckload de Mexico. With over 17 years of service at Con-way Truckload, he has been actively involved in expanding Con-way Truckload’s service offerings to its customers, including dedicated operations and regional services.
Mr. Montaño began his 26-year career in the transportation industry working with Roadway Express, where he was in charge of sales in seven western states in the U.S. and Mexico. He joined Con-way Truckload in January 1990 as director of sales for Mexico. In 1993, he was named vice president of sales and marketing, handling 50% of sales at Con-way Truckload. In 1996, he became responsible for 100% of sales management and strategic planning.
Under Mr. Montaño’s guidance, the Mexico division has grown to 40% of Con-way Truckload’s total revenues. The company now operates over 2,700 tractors and more than 8,600 trailers, and delivers industry-leading full truckload service to shippers in the United States, Canada and Mexico. Con-way Truckload was one of the first carriers to establish truckload operations in Mexico, and has been recognized for its excellence in export service. Con-way Truckload received the President’s “E” and “E-Star” Awards. The company is also ISO 9001-2000 certified.
Mr. Montaño earned a bachelor of science in business administration from the University of Arizona in Tucson. He is based out of Con-way Truckload’s headquarters in Joplin, Mo.
